Re " ...find[ing] even simple geospatial geometries intimidating ..."
and the market's readiness:

One of the recent accomplishments of Google and Microsoft is that their
map-related API's have made the implementation of useful
location-related information much more approachable than it had been.
It no longer takes a team of GIS expert to post informative displays
online, and I speak here from some experience in doing so.

Let me add this example - not mine: (Try to correct for line breaks.)
 http://maps.google.com/maps/ms?hl=en&ie=UTF8&om=1&msa=0&msid=114250687465160386813.00043d08ac31fe3357571&ll=32.997146,-116.968689&spn=0.962878,1.867676&z=9

Accordingly, this corner argues in favor of that "more complete
GML-style geospatial form."

In that case, we could revisit the use of info blocks and consider restricting them to the Canadian (language-only) or other usages. However, a lot of folks still seem to find even simple geospatial geometries intimidating, so I wonder whether the market is entirely ready for that.
